A Sharon woman is facing multiple theft charges after police say she stole nearly $50,000 from people through donation scams on Facebook.

According to a criminal complaint, 60-year-old Kelly Anderson-Clark is charged with three third degree felony counts of theft in connection with donation scams allegedly conducted by her in a Facebook group.

Police say the group, called "Any Port in the Storm," was designed to collect money and donate it to people in need. Anderson-Clark, who ran the group, would allegedly post stories of people in need of help and ask for donations.

Some of the alleged posts involved a man whose wife and daughter died being evicted from his apartment and needing money for a tire and gas to go to a social security hearing and a homeless woman who was being harassed in the streets and needed money to stay in a motel room.

According to the complaint, the posts only referred to these people by first names such as "Butchie" and "Mary" with no last names ever given.

Police say several members of the group donated on these posts by giving money to Anderson-Clark or her daughter directly through apps like Venmo, PayPal and CashApp.

However, police say members of the group got suspicious when Anderson-Clark would not show any financial statements. That's when members of the group alerted police to the potential scam.

In all, police had spoken to 12 group members who said they've never met any of the people supposedly in need and whenever they offered to help by giving rides or dropping off food, Anderson-Clark would tell them they wished to remain anonymous or give excuses for why they couldn't see them in person.

According to the complaint, Anderson-Clark had actually been using the funds to pay for motel rooms for herself and her two kids. Police found at least two motels in the West Middlesex area that Anderson-Clark was allegedly paying with cash to stay at.

In all, Anderson-Clark is suspected of stealing $47,871.04 through these alleged scams.

Eventually, police interviewed Anderson-Clark's daughter who told officers she was not in the group herself, but did go with her mother to deliver blankets and other things to people. She told police the last time her mother helped someone in need was in September of 2024.

Anderson-Clark's daughter told police she had never met anyone by the name of "Butchie" and did not know the names of any of the people her mother had helped.

Police then spoke to Anderson-Clark herself. During the interview, she allegedly insisted that "Butchie" and "Mary" were real people she had met and reiterated the stories told in the Facebook posts.

However, police noted inconsistencies in her story such as her not knowing if "Butchie" was on social security despite mentioning it in a post before and not knowing what funeral home "Butchie's" wife had been at despite mentioning being in contact with a funeral director in another post.

Additionally, the complaint alleges that at one point in the interview, Anderson-Clark said, "I want to tell you I was kicked out of the house. I didn't lie. I did post mom and two kids need somewhere to go."

Police say Anderson-Clark told officers that she did not reveal that she was the one who needed help because she was embarrassed.

According to court records, Anderson-Clark was arraigned on her theft charges on January 30. She's due back in court February 26 for a preliminary hearing.
