LG Recalls 500,000 electric ranges due to fire hazard

LG Electronics has announced a recall of approximately 500,000 slide-in and freestanding electric ranges due to a significant fire hazard. The recall, issued on February 6, 2025, follows numerous reports of accidental activation of the front-mounted knobs, leading to fires, property damage, injuries, and even pet deaths.
The recalled ranges, sold under the LG brand, feature front-mounted knobs that can be unintentionally turned on by contact from humans or pets. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received at least 86 reports of such incidents, including over 28 fires. These fires have resulted in extensive property damage exceeding $340,000, as well as eight minor injuries, including burns, and the deaths of three pets.
The affected models include specific slide-in and freestanding ranges with model and serial numbers listed on the CPSC recall notice. The model number can be found inside the oven door or storage drawer.
The ranges were sold at major retailers nationwide, including Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and online at LG.com, between 2015 and January 2025.
Prices ranged from $1,400 to $2,650, depending on the model. The ranges were manufactured in Mexico and Korea.

LG is offering a free warning label and instructions for placement to consumers. The label serves as a reminder to utilize the Lock Out/Control Lock function, which disables the heating elements when the range is not in use. An instructional video demonstrating the Control Lock/Lock Out feature is available at https://vimeo.com/1037322282.
Consumers are strongly advised to take the following precautions:
- Contact LG for the free warning label and instructions.
- Always use the Lock Out/Control Lock function when the range is not in use.
- Keep children and pets away from the range knobs.
- Double-check that all knobs are in the off position before leaving home or going to bed.
- Do not leave any objects on the range when it is not in use.
