Hermitage residents push for action on long-standing sewage issue
A Hermitage neighborhood is dealing with an ongoing sewage issue that has lasted nearly three years, leaving residents frustrated with the city’s response.
Neighbors on Lynnwood Drive say raw sewage has been pooling in a yard, creating an overwhelming odor and raising concerns about health risks. Some residents claim the smell seeps into their homes, especially during warmer months.
The property owner, Terrance Whalen, says he has been following city orders and is paying out of pocket to have the septic system pumped twice a month. He also states that water testing has not shown any contamination and that the city has prevented him from making repairs due to an upcoming sewer expansion project.
City officials confirm they are aware of the issue and have a plan in place to extend municipal sewer lines. However, they say a permanent fix won’t happen until later this year.
Neighbors argue that more immediate action is needed. One resident described the situation as “getting worse,” questioning why the issue has been allowed to continue for so long.
For now, the property owner says he will continue maintaining the system as required, while residents wait for the city’s long-term solution.
