Butler Art Museum hosts 'Date With an Artist' event as part of "First Fridays"
With Valentine's Day a week away, what better way to celebrate love than to fall in love with art?
The city, along with Youngstown CityScape and The Butler Institute of American Art teamed up for a special edition of 'First Fridays' called 'Date With an Artist'.
"The Butler, with their programmatic related stuff, they decided to help people experience the art a little better from both the collections standpoint and some activities with that, but also some live art with Daniel Rauschenbach this evening," said Adam Lee, program director for Youngstown CityScape.
"We have one of the richest cultures I think in the country and it's not just 'cause of the food," Rauschenbach said. "It's the arts that's still alive here. There's so many great artists here, so many great musicians and Youngstown is a great home."
Hundreds got immersed in that culture Friday night.
Many of the exhibits and experiences focused on Black History Month.
The event began at the McDonough Museum of Art with special features from local artists.
It wrapped up at the Ward Beecher Planetarium with the "We Are Stars" show.
More special 'First Fridays' are on tap for March and April. The March 7 edition will celebrate young artists at SMARTS, and offer a more family-oriented experience, while the April 4 edition will be geared toward adults, with a science and tech-themed event at OH WOW! Science Center. 'First Fridays' looks to return outdoors in downtown Youngstown in May.
