Youngstown NAACP hosting Black History film series, showing cultural awareness films

Every Saturday over Zoom, the Youngstown NAACP shows a film based in cultural awareness to promote Black history year round and not just during the month of February.
"We make sure that the movie series that we show are family oriented and they're documentaries so we need to know about our history," James Brown, President of the Youngstown Mahoning County NAACP James Brown said.
It's all in an effort to make sure people don't forget the past and that we continue moving forward.
"Our youth, they need to know history, they need to be aware so we don't repeat the same mistakes over and over again," Brown said. "We're not gonna forget and cultural awareness brings cultural pride and when you have pride in yourself, you don't do dumb things," he said.
In addition, the group has a national cultural awareness initiative campaign coming up next Saturday in New York.
"It's called 'putting our students first.' This is the tenth anniversary of the school district being found guilty of some violations of Brown v. Board and so now the whole nation, every NAACPP in the entire nation will follow the Youngstown plan which is now entitled 'putting our students first,'" Brown said.
