A Trumbull County Judge has handed down the maximum sentence to the man convicted a fatally beating someone who took him into his home.

Forty-four-year-old Gabriel Hendrix of Warren was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty earlier to involuntary manslaughter for the May 15 beating death of 48-year-old Andrew Warner at Warner’s Westwood Drive home.

Judge Cynthia Wescott Rice granted the request of Assistant Prosecutor Michael Burnett and sentenced Hendrix to the maximum prison term of 11 to sixteen-and-a-half years.

“Andrew Warner, a handicapped man, allowed the Defendant to live in his home to try to help the Defendant to get back on his feet. His kindness was repaid by being assaulted several times over a period of days, ultimately being beat to death by the hands of the Defendant. Such savagery deserves no compassion,” wrote Burnett in his memorandum.

Hendrix has been in the Trumbull County Jail since his arrest on the day Warner was killed.
