Sharpsville unable to support reopening of Sharon Regional Medical Center

The Borough of Sharpsville is unable to financially support the reopening of Sharon Regional as it originally planned.
Borough Mayor Mark Gill tells 21 News the borough had originally approved to consult its Finance Committee to see if it had any funds to donate.
Gill said while no official number was discussed, the borough had money in another account that they thought they could transfer to the general fund to go towards reopening the hospital.
However, further discussion with a solicitor revealed that by law the borough could not transfer funds from one account to another. Gill says the borough cannot afford to tap into its general fund to reopen the hospital.
"We went through many iterations to try to find funds, but that wasn't going to happen," Gill said.
However, Sharon City Manager Bob Fiscus tells 21 News this loss will not affect the hospital's ability to reopen.
Gill further told 21 News that the borough has been in contact with Rod Wilt from Penn Northwest, who said he is working to fill the gap from the loss of Sharpsville's contribution.
Fiscus told 21 News there is still no official timeline from the Department of Health for when the hospital can reopen
