South Range places first in Metallica Marching Band Competition

One high school in the Mahoning Valley has been recognized by one of the biggest heavy metal bands of all time.
South Range High School in Canfield placed first in heavy metal band Metallica's second annual "For Whom The Band Tolls" marching band competition's small high school category.
High schools across the country were challenged to upload a video of them performing their best rendition of one of Metallica's many hits.
Of those videos posted, five would be selected by professional judges with Metallica's members selecting the winners in each category with categories based on high school sizes, as well as a fan-favorite category.
South Range's rendition of Metallica's 1991 hit "Enter Sandman" won them first place in the small high school category.
The band will receive $20,000 worth of music equipment courtesy of Sweetwater, Tama, Hal Leonard, KHS America, Tromana, Ernie Ball, Music For All and Bands of America.
