Campbell Woman arrested after dogs found abandoned in apartment

A Campbell woman was arrested Wednesday after Police say her two dogs were found abandoned in an apartment.
Marvetta Lawrence, 45, faces several charges including resisting arrest, failure to register dog tags, abandonment, prohibitions concerning companion animals, and neglect, according to Campbell Police.
Officers were dispatched to 10 Blackburn St. Wednesday morning after the property manager reported that Lawrence had been evicted and had abandoned two dogs inside the residence: a gray pit bull and a white Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix.
The property manager told police that Lawrence had changed the locks on the apartment, preventing access. Officers forced the apartment door open.
Inside, they found dog urine and fecal matter in the apartment, consistent with being present for at least a week, police said. There was no food or water for the animals. Officers retrieved the dogs and took them to a local kennel.
Later Wednesday morning, Lawrence arrived at the Campbell Police Department and told officers she had not moved out of the apartment and was still in the process of moving. She became argumentative and demanded her dogs back, police said.
During the booking process, Lawrence allegedly resisted arrest, tensing her muscles and scraping an officer’s hand. Officers then used a takedown maneuver to subdue her and placed her in handcuffs.
Lawrence is to appear in Campbell Municipal Court on Feb. 21.
