Ohio Edison looking at plan to replace electric transmission line in Trumbull County

Ohio Edison is looking to update one of its electric transmission lines that runs through Warren, Howland and Bazetta townships.
According to Ohio EPA filings, FirstEnergy Corporation's proposed project involves rebuilding the Niles Central-Packard 138kV line, including replacing the structures that carry the electric lines through the region.
The filing also notes that the installation of 21 of the proposed replacement structures will require 0.07 acres of permanent fill in a wetland area.
According to the assessment filed on the project, the placement of temporary timber matting will result in 4.58 acres of temporary impacts.
The entire proposed project study area consists of 62.08 acres and will occur within an existing utility right of way within forested areas and commercial and residential spaces.
Ohio Edison sent a letter of notification application to the Ohio Public Utilities Commission on October 2, but the status was listed as 'case voided.'
Field investigations were conducted on March 8, August 7 and 8, and on October 4. Application for water quality certification was filed on February 5 with the Ohio EPA.
21 News reached out to Ohio Edison for comment on the proposed project.
"While it's too premature to comment specifically on this project, FirstEnergy undertakes line rebuilds on their transmission system to enhance electric service reliability by replacing aging infrastructure with modern equipment, allowing for increased power capacity, reducing outage frequency and adapting to growing energy demands," said Hannah Catlett, an Ohio Edison spokesperson.
