Warren man arrested after high speed chase through Sharon, Brookfield Township

A Warren man has been arrested following a high speed police chase through Sharon and Brookfield Township Friday night.
According to a police report from Brookfield Township PD, the chase originated in Sharon and headed towards Brookfield Township prompting its officers to join the chase.
Police say the suspect vehicle was driving "erratically" through Masury.
An officer with the Brookfield Township eventually spotted the suspect vehicle going around the bend on Standard Avenue near Elm Street.
According to the report, the officer put his cruiser in reverse with his sirens on to get out of the roadway, but the suspect vehicle nearly struck the cruiser. It was then that the officer joined Sharon PD on the chase.
Police say the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.
The vehicle eventually stopped after troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol placed spikes in the roadway, but the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Xavier Ford, continued to flee on foot prompting a foot chase.
Officers eventually captured Ford in a wooded area. Police say Ford told officers he had fled from Sharon police several times and took the same route as the last time he fled.
Police say Ford further told officers he can normally get through Brookfield because of a delay in dispatching due to the county change.
The report states that he had a warrant in Pennsylvania, but did not specify what the warrant was for. Court records from Mercer County indicate Ford had pled no contest to a charge of Corruption of Minors from Sharon in 2020, but had since been delinquent on monthly payments in the case.
21 News is working to learn the details on the 2020 case.
According to the report, additional charges of failure to comply, driving under suspension, resisting arrest and reckless operation are also expected to be filed in Trumbull County.
Court records do not show arraignment information for Ford at this time.
