VIENNA TWP., Ohio - The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department crew has received free First Alert Precision Detection smoke alarms to help residents of Vienna.

The volunteer crew received the donation for recently completing a national training program on updated smoke alarm standards.

The new course is the latest in a series of educational trainings developed between First Alert and the National Fire Council (NVFC) that focuses on the history of smoke alarm standards, advancements in smoke alarm technology and how the updated technology addresses safety in modern homes.

According to the release, the rise of synthetic materials in home furnishings, along with open floor plans and higher ceilings, has reduced the time to safely escape a house fire from 10 to 15 minutes in the 1970s to just one to two minutes today.

The donation of Precision Detection alarms will help volunteers in Vienna increase safety by equipping more homes with the latest smoke detection technology, which are designed to reduce nuisance alarms caused by cooking smoke or steam while still meeting safety requirements.

"Being a recipient of free training and these First Alert alarms is a great windfall for our community," said president Lieutenant Mark Haddle of the volunteer fire department.

He continued, "The donation of educational and physical resources will help our department with our community risk reduction efforts. We thank the NVFC for their outreach and First Alert for their continued support of volunteers and their concern for home fire safety."
