BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office, along with local and federal authorities, has dropped charges of forged documentation against a man in order for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to proceed with deportation efficiently.

Diego Lopez Gomez, 23, was arrested in Boardman after the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) determined that Gomez attempted to get an Ohio ID using counterfeit documents.

Given ICE's jurisdiction over immigration-related offenses and Gomez's apparent unlawful status in the States, the charges were dropped in order for ICE officials to handle the case.

BMV employees say they found errors in the documents provided, including a Social Security card and resident card, and alerted law enforcement.

Authorities confirmed that the documents were fake upon further investigation.
