YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has announced the results of its 2024 Campaign Wednesday afternoon.

During a Wednesday press conference, Youngstown United Way President Bob Hannon announced that the non-profit has raised $3,751,520 during its 2024 campaign.

"This is the most money we've ever raised in our 106-year history," Hannon said.

The previous record was about $3,750,000.

Hannon says each year, as long as the organization focuses on helping those in need and showing donors the work it does every year, the money will keep coming in. However, Hannon says the United Way does not just think about the money.

"We don't obsess and focus on the money. We focus on helping people and trying to show donors and volunteers and stakeholders the work that we do, and then we believe they're going to invest in our United Way to try to make a real difference, and we believe we're doing that," Hannon said.

Hannon added that one challenge with the campaign each year is that companies come and go and there aren't a lot of new big companies coming into the Valley.

However, individuals who give through payroll deduction allow for the United Way to continue to have fruitful, successful campaigns.

"Where we've shown growth is schoolteacher giving, nurses [and] labor. $5 a week out of your paycheck [or] $10 a week, so the more people we can get engaged and not be so reliant on one or two companies, it gives us the chance to be successful," Hannon said.

The goal for the organization's 2025 campaign will be announced at its annual meeting.
