Police: Three from Warren possibly victims of Florida computer scam

Two Florida residents are accused of scamming thousands of dollars from victims from several states including three in Warren, Ohio.
Mei M. Dong, 36, and Dongdong Ye, 38, both of Rockledge, Florida, have been charged in a Wisconsin Court with theft by false representation.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court, each defendant is charged with two counts of theft by false representation related to an alleged computer scam targeting an elderly Elm Grove, Wisconsin resident.
The complaint alleges that on September 12, 2023, the 76-year-old victim was tricked into purchasing over $4,300 in gift cards and wiring $10,000 to an account in California. The Elm Grove Police Department’s investigation, led by Detective Craig Mayer, identified Dong and Ye as suspects through transaction records, video surveillance, and social media.
The defendants are accused of obtaining gift card information and receiving the $10,000 wire transfer.
The investigation also revealed potential connections to similar scams in other states including Michigan and Ohio.
Police say in September 2023, $15,000 and $10,000 were transferred from the CitiBank accounts of two men from Warren, Ohio.
Warren police also reported that a third potential computer scam victim reported wiring $25,000 to a bank account in California.
If convicted in Wisconsin, the charges carry a potential penalty of up to six years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine for each count.
As of Friday, the two have not been charged in Warren Municipal Court or Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
