Mahoning County real estate tax deadline approaching

Mahoning County property owners face a March 7 deadline to pay their first-half real estate taxes without penalty, Treasurer Dan Yemma announced Tuesday.
Bills for approximately 166,000 parcels were mailed and emailed in early February. Yemma said property owners should have received their bills by now.
"There is no grace period," Yemma said in a news release. "Failure to receive a tax bill will not avoid such penalty and interest," as per Ohio law.
Those who have not received a bill can check the Mahoning County website or call the treasurer's office at 330-740-2460. Online viewing is available for all taxpayers. Final bills for those on the Tax Installment Program also have been mailed.
The treasurer's office has expanded electronic payment options, which now include Google Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, in addition to credit card and electronic check. Taxpayers can schedule automatic payments. Transaction fees, charged by a third-party vendor, have been reduced. Electronic billing is also available.
The treasurer's office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 120 Market St. Payments can be made in person, online or by mail. Mail payments should be addressed to Treasurer Daniel R. Yemma at the Market Street address. Payments postmarked by March 7 will be considered on time.
Approximately $332 million in real estate taxes have been charged for the 2024 tax year. The largest portion of the funds goes to public school districts, with remaining funds distributed to townships, parks, children's services, developmental and mental disabilities, libraries, senior citizens and other entities, Yemma said.
