Financial report shows troubling trend for Youngstown City School District
The Youngstown City School District has released its monthly financial report. Compared to the previous year, projections indicate growing expenses could outpace revenue.
According to the report, revenue for the school district is down $85,690, which is in the forecasted range, but still lower than the previous year.
Meanwhile, total expenditures have increased compared to the previous year, now amounting to roughly $2.1 million.
Despite the aforementioned totals, superintendent Jeremy Batchelor remains optimistic about the future.
"Sometimes, the way that things happen month to month you will see some patterns. But overall we're still in a good place," Batchelor told 21 News. "There's some, you know, slow revenue coming in, but projections show us still continuing to be on [the right] track."
The treasurer, Bryan Schiraldi, said there are options on that table to make up for the deficiency, although he would not provide specific answers on what kind of options are being considered.
However, inside sources tell 21 News that options include eliminating some administrative personnel and potentially closing some school buildings.
