City of Sharon receives two grants to improve traffic safety at several intersections

SHARON, Pa. - The City of Sharon has received over $200,000 in grants to improve traffic safety at several different intersections.
The city received two grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) as part of $20.4 million distributed as part of its Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding.
One grant worth $85,000 will be used to update traffic signal equipment at 17 different intersections. The release does not specify which intersections these are.
Another grant worth $120,000 will be used to increase overall vehicular and pedestrian safety at the intersection of North Sharpsville Avenue and Pitt Street.
21 News has reached out to Sharon City Manager Bob Fiscus for more information on these grants.
According to the release, the ARLE program aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at intersections where red light running has been an issue.
The grant is funded by fines from red light violations at 38 intersections in Philadelphia.
