YPD uses drone while conducting drug raids

Youngstown Police used an “eye in the sky” to help them as they raided two homes Tuesday, resulting in five people being charged and the seizure of drugs, a firearm, and cash.
One raid took place just after 5:30 p.m. at 145 W. Chalmers Ave., where officers from the Neighborhood Response Unit forced their way inside.
The search turned up 51 bags of crack cocaine, a digital scale, and $3,074 in cash. Dennis Artis was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility.
Humane agents removed a dog from home.
Police say Artis was being booked into the county jail when deputies found 11 Alprazolam pills hidden in his shoe. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Earlier that afternoon NRU officers were about to raid a home at 480 Norwood Ave when the police department’s drone saw three people leaving the property in a blue Dodge Dart.
Officers pulled the car over, arresting Patricia Morton after they said a bag of crack cocaine was found near her feet.
At the Norwood Avenue home, police arrested William Duncan, Michael Hornyak, and Sheila Fields.
A search of the residence revealed a .22 caliber revolver in Duncan's jacket pocket, a used glass crack pipe on the living room couch, a digital scale in an upstairs bedroom, and a bindle of fentanyl in another bedroom, according to police.
Duncan was charged with possession of fentanyl, having weapons under disability, and obstructing official business. Hornyak received a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia, and Fields received a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Duncan, Fields, and Morton are scheduled to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court on Friday.
