A former Mahoning County woman is on trial for the murder of her 3-year-old son in Akron nearly nine years ago.

Amanda Jo Bunner, 35, lived on Salem Warren Road in Green Township when she was arrested in April, 2023 in connection with the death of her son Jaxon Ross Bunner. 

According to the Summit County Medical Examiner, the boy died on April 13, 2016, at a home in the 300 block of Palm Avenue in Akron.

The Medical Examiner told 21 News that the boy's death was ruled a homicide, the cause of death was from a subdural hemorrhage with traumatic brain swelling, and herniation from a craniocerebral blunt force trauma, and listed signs of prior physical abuse and neglect in the report. 

Bunner has remained in jail on $1 million bond since her arrest.
