Austintown man sentenced for abuse of ex-girlfriend's corpse

An Austintown man has been placed on six months probation for dragging his girlfriend's corpse in an apartment stairwell.
Jamey Neeld, 44, pleaded guilty Monday to abuse of a corpse. A charge of failing to report a crime was dropped.
The charges stem from an incident in July of 2024 when police were called to an apartment on the 800 Block of North Meridian Road for a body found in the stairwell.
A witness told police he saw Neeld dragging the body of 69-year-old Suzanne Wilmer by her feet into the stairwell. Police say the two had dated in the past.
Later, police were called back to the apartment for a shoe found in the stairwell that is believed to have belonged to Wilmer. Police believe that the shoe was placed in the stairwell after their first visit to the scene.
Neeld was sentenced to 90 days in jail, 56 of which were suspended. He was also given credit for the remaining 34 days which he already spent in jail.
