A former contract licensed practical nurse who admitted taking $45,000 in bribes to smuggle contraband into the privately operated prison in Youngstown has been sentenced to two years of probation and six months of home detention.

During Tuesday’s hearing in U.S. District Court in Cleveland, Alexis Schneider, who worked at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center (NEOCC), was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and a $120 special assessment.

Schneider, 30, pleaded guilty on Nov. 26 to one count of bribery of a public official, one count of conspiracy, and one count of introduction of contraband. NEOCC is a U.S. Marshals Service contract facility in Youngstown housing federal inmates.

According to court documents, Schneider conspired with others between June 29, 2021, and Sept. 14, 2021, to provide prohibited items, including loose tobacco, to an inmate at NEOCC in exchange for cash.

As part of her sentence, Schneider will be restricted to her residence except for work, medical treatment and religious services, with prior permission from her probation officer. She was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and participate in any recommended treatment program.

Schneider must also forfeit $45,401, the amount prosecutors said she received in bribery payments.
