Valley schools unite to support family after fatal New Middletown crash

Students and staff across several Valley schools are wearing blue on Thursday to show their support for the family affected by a two-vehicle accident in New Middletown.
Springfield Local Schools encourages students and faculty to wear blue to express compassion for 12-year-old classmate Jayden, who sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Other local schools, including Campbell, South Range, Boardman, Crestview, and Columbiana, are joining the effort, inviting their students and staff to wear blue as a sign of solidarity.
The accident resulted in the deaths of Jayden's mother, Angela Brown, and his 15-year-old brother, Jason. On Wednesday, many Springfield students and staff wore red in remembrance of classmate Jason.
The Springfield Athletic Boosters are organizing a t-shirt fundraiser to benefit the family. The shirts feature the phrase "A community united" on the front and "Daff Family" on the back. Order forms are being distributed to students and are also available on the organization's Facebook page.
The Springfield Local Library is collecting non-perishable food donations for the family in its lobby. Additionally, the library has set up a station for community members to create get-well-soon cards for Jayden.
The crash occurred on Monday, March 3, on State Route 170. Walter Bolt, driving a pickup truck, crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Angela Brown. The impact caused the Accord to veer off the road and overturn into a ditch.
Authorities anticipate filing charges against Bolt in connection with the accident.
