YSU Alumnus donates $400,000 to Kilcawley Center renovation

Dr. George Young, a Youngstown State University (YSU) alumnus, has pledged $400,000 to the "Kilcawley: Centered on the Future" campaign.
The contribution will support the renovation of the Kilcawley Center, the university's student union.
In recognition of his donation, the Student Activities Suites will be named the Dr. George Young Student Activities Suites.
Dr. Young is the co-founder of Kalypso, a management consulting firm. He is also the son of Dr. Warren Young, a retired YSU physics and astronomy professor.
Dr. Young earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from YSU, a doctorate in organic chemistry from The Ohio State University, and an MBA from Rice University. He previously established the Dr. Warren M. Young Chair in Physics and Astronomy at the YSU Foundation with a $1.5 million endowment.
The "Kilcawley: Centered on the Future" campaign aims to modernize the Kilcawley Center with several enhancements, including:
- Modern lounges
- Flexible event spaces
- Expanded dining options
- A revamped Chestnut Room for larger gatherings
- Improved indoor and outdoor spaces
- Enhanced connectivity to the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center
- A new black box theater for performances
The total cost of these developments is estimated at $43 million. The university is actively fundraising to meet this goal.
