Mega Millions ticket prices are set to increase in April
Big changes are coming to the Mega Millions lottery game. Starting in April the price for a ticket will cost more than double from its current price.
The cost of a single ticket will jump from $2 to $5 in April. This is the second time Mega Millions has increased its price. The last time was in 2017 when the price increased from $1 to $2.
Players in the Mahoning Valley are worried that this increase will become a trend. At Colla's Market in Austintown, reactions from Mega Millions players are mixed.
"I think its getting too expensive. It's too much money," said one player. "That's ridiculous. I won't be playing no more," said another.
Austintown resident, James Wallace said the increased price will not stop him from trying to hit the jackpot.
"Well it's nothing that any of us would like. But I guess if you want to win, you got to play. As a player, I'll probably continue to play,"
According to the lottery, the higher ticket rate will come with an increased prize.
Mega Millions introduced the following changes they say will benefit players starting next month:
-Higher odds of winning the jackpot
-Bigger and more frequent jackpots
-Larger starting jackpots
-Faster growing jackpots
-A built-in multiplier for every play that would automatically improve every-non-jackpot win by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X -- up to $10 million for matching the five white balls
-No breakeven prizes, allowing winners to always win more than the ticket's cost
