2000: Niles Mayor Ralph Infante revives a plan for a city-owned cable TV system that was rejected by city voters in 1998. Infante says the number of complaints about Time-Warner service is increasing, a claim the company denies.

Ohio Gov. Bob Taft endorses Texas Gov. George W. Bush for the Republican presidential nomination, calling him a "common-sense conservative" who will benefit Ohio.

The Vindicator endorses U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona over Texas Gov. George W. Bush for the Republican presidential nomination; Vice President Al Gore gets the paper's nod over N.J. Sen. Bill Bradley in the Democratic race. 


1985: Youngstown Mayor Patrick Ungaro says revised estimates place the cost of cleaning up PCBs and other chemicals from the former Aeroquip Corp. site on Albert Street at $500,000.

Genera1 Motors Chairman Roger Smith is advocating for a reduction in the country's staggering trade and budget deficits.

The Monday Musical Club presents Peter Nero, the ultimate pop musician, pianist, composer, arranger, and composer, at Stambaugh Auditorium. Tickets are $5, $8, $10, and $12. 
 
1975: Carroll J. Thomas, administrator of North Side Hospital and Tod Babies' and Children's Hospital, resigns. His plans are not revealed.

An increase in tuition for the Diocese of Youngstown's six high schools is being proposed. The current rate for the first child is $350 a year.

Youngstown Police Chief Donald G. Baker orders police to pick up rackets figure Joey Naples, 42, for complicity in the gangland-style murder of Carl J. Netolicky of Lake Milton. 


1950: Regina Binder, a red-haired, blue-eyed girl who was a Russian slave in Ukraine two years ago, is safe in the home of her aunt, Mrs. Paul Nemenz, 422 W. Evergreen Avenue in Youngstown. 

Anshe Emeth Temple's sisterhood and men's club are in final rehearsals for "Another Opening," a musical at Rayen School. Among the acts is Harriet Schwebel and Jerry Rudolph's rendition of "Me and My Shadow."

At J. Edgar Hoover's invitation, Youngstown Police Chief Edward J. Allen described Youngstown's campaign against organized racketeering and gambling for other police chiefs at the FBI National Academy.
