2000: U.S. Rep. James A Traficant Jr. wins renomination in the Democratic primary with 47 percent of the vote in a four-man race. Robert F. Hagan got 33 percent; George Tablack, 17 percent, and Christopher Doutt, 1 percent.
Paul Alberty won the Republican nomination over former Congressman Lyle Williams. Incumbent Mahoning County Commissioners Ed Reese and Vicki Allen Sherlock stave off primary challenges from Debbie Taylor and Bruce Paulette.
