A former Mahoning County woman was found guilty in the murder of her 3-year-old son in Akron almost nine years ago.

Thirty-five-year-old Amanda Jo Bunner lived on Salem Warren Road in Green Township before being arrested in April of 2023 in connection with the murder of her toddler son, Jaxon Bunner.

The 3-year-old Bunner died on April 13, 2016 at a home in the 300 block of Palm Avenue in Akron.

The Summit County Medical Examiner told 21 News that the cause of death for the 3-year-old was a massive subdural hematoma and concluded that his brain injuries along with bruises on his body and malnourished frame were the result of child abuse.

"The death of Jaxon Bunner was a preventable tragedy, and my sympathies go out to his family," said Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich in a statement released on Facebook. "There is no tolerance for child abuse in Akron, and it breaks my heart every time a case like this comes to our office."

Before her sentencing, Bunner had a bond set for $1 million.

Bunner is set to be sentenced at 10 a.m. on March 27.
