YSU falls short against Robert Morris in Horizon League Championship
(4) Youngstown State came up short against (1) Robert Morris, 89-78, in the Barbasol Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship Tuesday in Indianapolis.
The Colonials got off to a fast start taking an early 11-0 lead but the Penguins battled back cutting the deficit to 30-29 with 2:22 to play in the first half on a three-pointer by Juwan Maxey. Robert Morris took a 34-29 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Penguins cut it to a 54-52 deficit with 11:23 left in regulation on a three-pointer by Cris Carroll but weren't able to get any closer. The Colonials led the game from start to finish.
Robert Morris shot 50% from three and 46.8% from the field, while the Penguins shot 37.9% from three and 42.9% from the field.
Josh Omojafo led the Colonials with 24 points and 13 rebounds and Kam Woods added 17. Alvaro Folgueiras chimed in with 14, Amarion Dickerson with 13 and D.J. Smith with 11.
For the Penguins, Maxey led the way with 23 points in the loss and Nico Galette added 21. Gabe Dynes had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Youngstown State's season comes to an end with an overall record of 21-13 under first-year head coach Ethan Faulker and their first appearance in the Horizon League championship game.
The Colonials capture the Horizon League championship for the first time and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
