A two-year-old child has been taken to the hospital after police say she was attacked by a neighborhood cat in Warren.

According to a police report, Warren police were called just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday by a man who told officers his two-year-old daughter was attacked by a cat the previous day.

Police say the child was outside of an apartment building on Berkshire Drive when a known cat who had a collar belonging to someone who lives in the building bit the child in the hand the previous day.

Police say the child was originally treated at home, but the next day, her hand was swollen so badly that she was taken to the emergency room. The child's condition is unknown at this time.

According to the report, the manager of the apartment complex got in touch with the owner of the cat and told them to contact the child's father, but police say the owner is refusing to call and is demanding proof that the child was actually bit.

At this time, no charges have been filed.
