A multi-year project to improve Route 18 and Route 58 near Thiel College in Greenville, Mercer County, is scheduled to restart in the coming weeks, PennDOT officials said.

Preliminary work is expected to begin the week of March 31, 2025, weather permitting, with major construction starting the week of April 7, 2025. The project is scheduled for completion by late October 2025.

The project, which began in 2024 with roadway repairs and paving Route 18 from Route 358 to Route 58, aims to improve pedestrian accessibility, safety, and intersection efficiency.

Construction in 2025 will be completed in five phases, each with traffic restrictions and detours. Access to driveways and businesses will be maintained throughout the project.

Phase 1 includes drainage, tree removal, and roadway widening along Route 18 from Shenango Street to Packard Avenue. Motorists should expect temporary lane restrictions with flaggers controlling traffic.

Phase 2 will involve drainage, roadway widening, and sidewalk and ADA-compliant curb ramp construction along Route 18 from Main Street to Packard Avenue and Orangeville Road to Front Street, as well as new signal foundations at the intersections of Route 18 and Route 58, 358, and High Street (Route 4005). Motorists should expect temporary lane restrictions with flaggers controlling traffic.

Phase 3 will include additional roadway widening, sidewalk, and ADA-compliant curb ramp construction along Route 18 from Main Street to Packard Avenue and Orangeville Road to Front Street, and reconstruction at Route 58 and Route 18 intersection. Motorists should expect temporary lane restrictions with flaggers controlling traffic.

Phase 4 will involve additional reconstruction, including pavement removal and installation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 58 and Route 18. A one-week detour of Route 58 westbound traffic will be required. Route 18 will close between Route 18 and 200 feet north of Packard Avenue Extension and the intersection with Ridgeway Avenue. The car detour will be from Route 18 to Williamson Road to Route 58. The truck detour will be from Route 18 to Route 322 to Route 58.

Phase 5 will include remaining milling, placing the final asphalt layer, landscaping and pavement markings. Motorists should expect temporary lane restrictions with flaggers controlling traffic.
