Youngstown City Council will consider an emergency measure next week to allocate up to $200,000 for cleanup, restoration, repair, and kitchen replacement at the Covelli Centre following a frozen water line break in the fire suppression system.

The incident, which occurred on January 25, 2025, caused significant damage to the venue’s kitchen and operations area.

Finance Director Kyle Miasek told council members earlier that the burst pipe released "volumes and volumes of water," damaging multiple kitchen appliances, including convection ovens, a pizza oven, a steamer, a griddle, roller ovens, a food processor, and a large mixer. The water also damaged a fire pump controller and a transfer switch.

The city has filed an insurance claim with Tokio Marine and is awaiting the adjuster's report. Funds for the repairs will be drawn from the Covelli Centre Fund.

Miasek noted that much of the damaged equipment was original to the facility, which opened in late October 2005. He also stated that the facility is incurring recurring fire prevention and safety charges due to the current state of the kitchen setup.
