YOUNGSTOWN - A Mahoning County Grand Jury on Thursday returned an indictment charging a North Carolina man in connection with a crash in Coitsville that killed a New Castle man.

Twenty-four-year-old 24-year-old Robert Powell of Westend, North Carolina, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, and operating a vehicle while impaired.

The charges stem from a two-vehicle crash that occurred on US 422 near S. Hubbard Road on April 11.  According to the Coitsville Township Police, a pickup truck driven by Powell, who was southbound on N. Hubbard Road approaching US 422, failed to yield the right of way and struck a car driven by 62-year-old John Kulnis of New Castle, who was eastbound on US 422.

Kulnis was trapped in his vehicle and later died from their injuries at the hospital.
