It has been two weeks since Insight Health Systems suspended service at its hospitals in Trumbull County. Since then, union leaders told 21 News that employees have received their pay and communication has improved slightly.

AFSCME Local 226 president Tom Connelly said all employees have had their health insurance restored until the end of April and secured their paychecks.

"They had about three weeks worth of pay. We got the last week of that...in our bank accounts today." Connelly said.

Chrissy Lewis, coordinator of Service Employees International Union District 1199, said union leaders will be meeting with Insight's communication team every Wednesday for weekly Q&A sessions.

Connelly said Insight allegedly has initial plans to reopen one part of the hospital.

"Right now [Insight] tells me that the initial plan is to reopen the emergency room [for] outpatient services only." Connelly said.

However, at this point it is still unclear when it will be reopened.

In the meantime, Senator Bernie Moreno said he is still waiting for a response to his letter that threatened to open a federal investigation into Insight, Steward Health Care, and Medical Properties Trust.

If Moreno does not receive a response, he said he plans to get the Department of Justice involved.

Seventh ward Councilman Ron White said the city is depending on federal help.

"Do not hesitate. Let's get things rolling so we can get this hospital back open again and people employed again." White said.

Update: On April 8, Medical Properties Trust responded to the senator's letter.  A spokesperson for the company disclosed the measures being taken to ensure the utilities at the 911 dispatch center in Trumbull County are not turned off. It is unclear the Senator Moreno is aware of the letter.
