Malone, center, celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination as a priest and the 25th anniversary of his installation as a bishop. Among the dignitaries of the church who attended a mass at St. Columba Cathedral were, from left, John Cardinal Krol, John Cardinal Dearden, Joseph Cardinal Bernardin, and Archbishop Pio Lagni, Vatican envoy to the United States. Fifteen years later, bishops and cardinals nationwide attended Bishop Malone's funeral at the cathedral.

2000: The auction of 88 parcels of land for delinquent taxes sold 60 of them, and $81,000 was distributed to the subdivisions in which the parcels were located.
