Editor's note: This story has been updated to include information regarding Wilson within the Austintown District.

Last month, a Jackson Milton girls' basketball coach was placed on paid administrative leave from the district pending an investigation into an allegation of potential misconduct.

Jeffrey Wilson, the district's head girls' basketball coach since 2022, was placed on administrative leave on March 11 by Jackson Milton Superintendent Kirk Baker.

The letter stated that Wilson was not permitted on school grounds unless authorized and was not permitted to contact any district students, parents, or staff, any district-affiliated vendor or third-party contracted agency, or the district's administration, with the exception of the district's superintendent.

Wilson submitted his resignation letter nine days later — on March 19 — stating that his three years with the district as girls' basketball coach "have been enjoyable, but I need to step away."

Wilson cited missing family events as one of the reasons for his decision to resign.

His resignation letter also stated that another reason for his resignation was the parents of the students he coached, listing allegations of concerns involving parents, including "aggressively and verbally accosting" the coach, a threat of violence against the coach and a parent "who constantly texted" about him.

Superintendent Baker told 21 News that the investigation is ongoing within the district.

A search on the Ohio Department of Education website shows that Wilson has been a teacher for 28 years and is employed full-time by the Austintown School District.

21 News received its records request from the Austintown School District to see if Wilson had any disciplinary or letters of reprimand in his personnel file with the Austintown School District.

During his one season as girls basketball coach in 2021-22 season for the district, Wilson was investigated for allegations of concerns and found "no overt or egregious behaviors substantiated that would warrant immediate removal or a suspension." But the letter stated Wilson needed to create and maintain a respectful environment with the team, families and alumni; maintain appropriate boundaries with female athletes, specifically as it related to locker room privacy and develop protocals for his presence in the locker room; provide a safe environment for students to feel comfortable with to approach coach on team strategies; develop and implement expectations for athletes and himself including appropriate behavior, including objectionable or offensive language. Wilson resigned as the girls' coach in March 2022.

On March 28, Wilson was given a "Last Chance Agreement" with the Austintown district, stating that he "engaged in conduct in violation" of a board policy against another facility member. The letter alleged that Wilson acted in an "aggressive and intimidating manner" toward a female teacher.

Wilson was suspended without pay for three days in late March and early April. The letter stated that any future violations of the stated agreement may lead to his termination.

21 News reached out to Wilson for comment, but Wilson declined to speak.
