A Lorain man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to charges stemming from a motel room arson in Braceville Township last December.

Justin Chill, 44, entered guilty pleas before Judge Ronald J. Rice to two counts of aggravated arson, first- and second-degree felonies.

Chill faces a potential prison sentence of between three and 24 ½ years. He will undergo a background investigation before his sentencing, which is scheduled for April 29.

The charges relate to a Dec. 13, 2024, fire at a motel in the 4100 block of State Route 5 in Braceville Township. Fire officials previously said a burning mattress in an unoccupied room at the Budget Lodge was extinguished by the motel manager before crews arrived.

Chill’s conviction also designates him as an arson offender, requiring him to register annually for the remainder of his life.

Chill was indicted on the arson charges in February.
