At least four people were injured in three separate accidents that shut down eastbound traffic along Interstate 76 in western Mahoning County early Thursday.

All eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 remained closed Thursday morning from a crash near State Route 534 in Milton Township to another accident east of Bailey Road in Jackson Township.

One lane of eastbound traffic along I-76 in Jackson Township was temporarily reopened at around 10 a.m., but both lanes were shut down again after cars and trucks trapped in a traffic backup were allowed through.

The first accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m., at first backing up eastbound traffic, then shutting down entirely as a medical helicopter landed to transport one of the victims.

Two box trucks and a tractor-trailer are among the three vehicles involved.  Firefighters had to rescue at least one victim who was trapped in the wreckage.

One driver was flown by medical helicopter for treatment of serious injuries.  Another driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Youngstown. 21 News is working to learn her condition.  A third driver was taken to a hospital before authorities arrived on the scene.

A second crash occurred in the area was traffic was backed up.

The latest crash was reported just after 10 a.m. along the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Route 534, where traffic was still backed up from the accident in Jackson Township earlier in the morning.

The rear-end crash involved a semi tractor-trailer and a pickup truck, spilling oil and tire debris over the highway, closing the eastbound lanes once again.

Material to soak up the oil spill was being brought to the crash site.

One person involved in the third crash has been taken to a hospital.
