SHARON, Pa. - Penn State has delayed the decision on which of its campuses will close until sometime in May.

A representative for Penn State Shenango in Sharon told 21 News the reason for this delay is with final exams, commencement and other milestone events coming up, it felt like poor timing to decide on closures.

While no specific date was given for when the closures would be decided on, we're told that decision is expected to be made by mid-May.

Penn State first announced in late February that it would be closing some of its campuses due to factors such as declining enrollment numbers, demographic shifts and financial pressures.

While certain campuses were named as ones that would not be affected by the closures, Penn State Shenango was not named on that list meaning it could potentially be among the campuses that close.

In the event that the Shenango campus does close, students will still be able to complete their courses and earn their degrees until after the 2026-27 academic year in order to give incoming fall 2025 freshmen time to complete their associate degree programs.
