OSP: Pickup driver’s alcohol level over twice legal limit in crash that killed New Middletown woman, son
The driver of a pickup truck allegedly involved in a head-on crash in Springfield Township had a blood alcohol content more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report.
Troopers said 65-year-old Walter Bolt was driving a truck that went left of center on State Route 170 on March 3 and struck a Honda Accord driven by 44-year-old Angela Brown of New Middletown.
Brown and her 15-year-old son, Jason Daff, died in the crash. Brown’s 12-year-old son was seriously injured.
The crash report obtained by 21 News showed that a test indicated Bolt had a blood alcohol level of .215 after the crash, exceeding Ohio’s legal limit of .08.
At the time of the crash, the patrol reported that Bolt exhibited slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, and had an odor of alcohol. Several open alcoholic beverage containers were also found in the truck.
The report also indicated that no one in either vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
While the patrol previously told 21 News that charges were expected, none had been filed as of Tuesday morning.
