UPMC Jameson expands behavioral health care services

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - According to a news release, UPMC Jameson is expanding its behavioral health care services throughout the region.
UPMC Jameson has launched an adult intensive outpatient program (IOP) to complement its partial hospitalization program (PHP) according to the release.
This expansion aims to address the community's growing need for accessible and effective mental health care which was identified in the Community Health Needs Assessment and Community Health Strategic Plan.
The two programs will provide a higher level of care than outpatient therapy.
The release states that the programs offer a combination of structured therapy sessions multiple times a week and allow patients to receive intensive treatment while maintaining daily routines and responsibilities.
The program serves patients with depression, anxiety, panic disorder and other behavioral health issues.
Both the IOP and PHP, provide group therapy, individual therapy, family and supportive session and medication management.
The programs are both located at 253 East Washington Street in New Castle.
Those enrolled in IOP participate three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The partial hospitalization programs runs Monday through Friday.
"Our new IOP is available to people who are experiencing worsening psychiatric symptoms that would benefit from more support than traditional outpatient therapy," said Brad Walters, behavioral health supervisor at UPMC Jameson.
Walters continued," Situations for joining an IOP might include difficulty coping with a life crisis, thoughts of suicide or difficulty with self-care and daily activities due to depression or anxiety. An IOP may also be helpful for individuals transitioning back into their communities after inpatient behavioral health care."
People seeking care do not need a referral from another provider and access to a psychiatrist is available, according to the release.
