Former Lawrence County man pleads guilty in child exploitation case

A former resident of Wampum, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty in federal court to producing material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Thomas Hyatt-Baney, 21, entered the guilty plea to one count before U.S. District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand.
Prosecutors said that on June 25, 2023, Hyatt-Baney used his iPhone to create three video clips that depicted the sexual exploitation of a toddler.
Judge Wiegand scheduled sentencing for Aug. 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Hyatt-Baney faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison, along with a potential fine of up to $250,000, or both.
Hyatt-Baney will remain in detention pending sentencing.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project, launched in May 2006, aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children and to identify and rescue victims.
