The Columbiana County Health District will be holding a Reduced Rabies Prevention Clinic in partnership with Lisbon Veterinary Clinic Saturday, May 3.

The clinic will take place at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center in Lisbon from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Folks can bring their pets to get vaccinated against rabies.

Rabies is a deadly virus that affects the central nervous system in mammals. It is almost always transmitted through the bite of an affected animal.

It can take months before a person shows any signs of the disease, and once symptoms do start to show, it is often too late to begin treatment.

Rabies is still a prevalent viral disease in Northeast Ohio with the Mahoning Valley having confirmed rabies cases in wild animals like raccoons and bats yearly since 2020.

The cost is $5 per dose cash only and guests are asked to bring exact change. All pets are required to be three months old or older, all dogs must be leashed and all cats must be crated unless otherwise confined.
