Grand jury indicts ex-con for OVI crash that injured Youngstown woman

A convicted drug trafficker now faces charges in an impaired driving crash that seriously injured a 29-year-old Youngstown woman.
The Mahoning County Grand Jury handed up an indictment charging 38-year-old Chael Soto of Youngstown with aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
State troopers say Soto was driving a pickup truck on January 25 that veered off Route 616 in Coitsville, running into a ditch and a mailbox.
Both Soto and the woman riding with him in the truck were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
At the time of the crash, Soto had recently been released from a seven-day jail sentence handed down by a federal judge for violating the terms of his probation.
In 2015, Soto was sentenced to 6-and-a-half years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute heroin.
Since the crash, Soto has been convicted of another probation violation and remains held in the Mahoning County Justice Center.
