YSU International Student Organization reacts to reversal of student visa revocation
International Students across the country will begin seeing their visas reinstated after the Trump Administration reversed track on revocations made earlier this month.
A moment of relief for 15 International Students at YSU in the wake of the Trump Administration's decision to restore legal statuses for thousands.
"It's been a journey, it's been very confusing, it's been uncertain but news like this, the reversal of the revocations brings a lot of relief." said Manav Desai, president of YSU's International Student Organization.
This about face follows a month of chaos that started with the a sweeping revocation of students' visas and the termination of their federal records maintained by ICE. Judges across the country had already begun issuing temporary orders restoring those records in the federal database.
"The fear of getting your visa revoked in an instant--even after doing a lot of work here was the biggest fear." Desai mentioned.
Desai says the University support from the International Programs Office, to the administration has helped students navigate the unchartered territory.
"The most important thing of all here was there was a lot of reassurance. There was a lot of emotional support and all the communication lines were always open." he explained.
While some students' visas have already been reinstated, the ISO president tells 21 News they haven't received word about those on YSU's campus just yet.
YSU Marketing and Communications Director Becky Rose acknowledged that it's an evolving situation.
"The University is working with the appropriate agencies and offices to inform and assist students as quickly as possible.
