Community members gathered at Phillips Chapel in Hubbard Friday to honor Dr. James Reynolds, a Valley native who passed away on April 11.

Reynolds was a founding member of The Edsels, a doo-wop group from Campbell best known for their 1958 song "Rama Lama Ding Dong" which gained popularity in 1961, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

Along with his music career, Reynolds also served in the Air Force Reserves for 37 years, retiring as a Senior Master Segeant.

Reynolds also became a pastor in the Valley, founding Early Morning Church of God in Christ.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown.

Reynolds was 86 years old.
