Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County set to host free 'Housing Summit'

A vast majority of Americans say owning a home remains an integral part of the "American dream". But, affordability and higher mortgage rates continue to pose a challenge.
The reality of finding and buying a home has changed in the last five years and it may become unobtainable for more and more people.
To help educate anyone on becoming a homeowner, even if you're new to the market or have been for a while, a free educational housing summit will be offered at The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County on May 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
According to the event description found on the library website, the summit will address questions about becoming a homeowner, credit and personal financial management and protecting homeowners legally, such as survivorship deeds.
Victor Russell with Apprisen Financial spoke to Sydney Canty during 21 News at 9 a.m. Saturday regarding some of the challenges that people in the market could face.
"You know, it's a challenging environment. You still have house values that are up and then you have interest rates that are still high as well. So monthly payments on a mortgage are higher. The other things that people need to take into consideration are property taxes and home insurance costs too as well that have skyrocketed in the last few years so it does make for an environment that is challenging to individuals if they're jumping into the market for the first time."
