BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - A 25-year-old man who recently completed an eight-year prison sentence for robbing a Poland fast food restaurant when he was a teen is back behind bars after two police K-9 officers helped apprehend him at a Boardman Motel for and alleged probation violation.

Police say Jeremy Britton told them that K-9s posted at the front and back entrances of a Market Street motel contributed to his decision to surrender to U.S. Marshals and local police on Tuesday.

K-9 Officers from Boardman and Youngstown joined members of the township Police Department's Neighborhood Enforcement Unit surrounded the motel to capture Britton, who authorities said could be armed, dangerous, and an escape risk.

Marshals made announcements for Britton to exit a motel room. After a short time, Britton and a female exited the room. At that point, Boardman’s K9 Jack began barking. Following a brief negotiation, Britton was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force.

According to the report, a YPD Officer spoke with Britton, who said that the presence of the police K9 units at the front and rear of the building contributed to his decision to surrender.

Britton was released from prison last month after serving an eight-year sentence for felonious assault, attempted kidnapping, robbery, and escape.

Britton made local headlines in April 2017 when he was still 17, and arrested one of the suspects in the robbery of the Poland Burger King.

While being held in the Juvenile Justice Center, Britton escaped by scaling a 20-foot-high razor wire fence.  Britton was on the run for more than 24 hours when authorities found him being harbored by a 22-year-old woman on Salt Springs Road in Youngstown.

As of Wednesday, Britton remained held in the Mahoning County Justice Center.

K-9 Jack is new to the Boardman Police force this year, recently certified as a Dual-Purpose Patrol Canine Team able to locate narcotics, conduct searches, track/apprehend individuals, and locate evidence.
