Court dismisses appeal of man convicted in arson that killed Warren teen

WARREN, Ohio - An appeal by one of the three people convicted in the Warren arson that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone has been dismissed.
The Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals dismissed the appeal of convicted murderer Zackary Gurd, who was sentenced to life in prison for his part in a 2023 fatal house fire that killed Broadstone.
Gurd, along with David Daviduk and Patricia Zarlingo, were all sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the fatal fire.
Prosecutors say that Gurd, Daviduk and Zarlingo went to the home on Nevada Avenue on January 19, 2023 to steal items from the home.
Police say Gurd brought the can of gasoline that was used to start the fire. Broadstone was asleep in her room when the fire started, and was unable to make it out of the house in time.
Prosecutors also say the motivation for the crime was an ongoing feud regarding some of the children in the home, but Broadstone was not involved in the feud.
According to court records, Gurd's attorney filed a motion to dismiss the appeal, after the state filed its response to Gurd's appeal.
