Wet weather seems to be reserved for weekends in northeast Ohio/western Pennsylvania. Ten weekends in a row have seen a least a trace of rain on either Saturday or Sunday - or both! Let’s leave it in the past and focus on the days ahead as the pattern switches this week. Instead of seeing the rain threat on the weekends, we’re moving it into the early part of the week. This highlights the positive aspect of this unsettled situation.

The jetstream, a fast flowing “river” high up in the sky that steers our weather, has set up a traffic jam. A pair of upper-level lows are cutoff from the main flow or the steering current. These troublemakers are notorious for overstaying their welcome. Think of it like a sailboat on the water. As long as there is a sustained wind, the sailboat can stay in motion. Without the steering current, the sailboat just meanders around the area. This stagnant pattern will plague us until at least Tuesday. The result will be daily rain chances, more clouds than sun, and an unsettled start to May. Most of these days will also feature some sunshine between the splash or dash showers. We’ll stay on the cooler side as well with highs in the 60s for the majority of the days this week.

It’s weather Deja (Boo) Vu for the early days of the new week. Monday begins dry with areas of dense fog - visibilities could be down to a single mile or less. Thunderstorms could develop in the afternoon with coverage of threats remaining scattered to isolated. Tuesday will trend to be an overcast and cooler day as the upper-level low moves overhead.

Eventually this cutoff low, weatherperson’s woe, will come to a fork in the road and decides to depart to the northeast. Once the system exits on Wednesday we will trade rain and severe chances with more sunshine. There is a fast moving front that will be carrying clouds, more raindrops and a drop in the temperatures on Thursday.

From a distance (I'm watching trends), we look to warm up and remain dry as we head into Mother's Day weekend with a pleasant looking Saturday and Sunday - what a way to celebrate mom!

Have a great Monday!
